Boots Across Scotland Thank you for visiting the Boots Across Scotland website. Boots Across Scotland was a Scottish based charity which existed from 1988 to 2011. During its lifetime it raised over £200,000 which contributed substantially to Mountain Rescue, helped rehabilitate several badly injured climbers and promoted many safety initiatives in the hills. After some difficult final years, it was legally wound up in 2011. At that time dormant funds were distributed to other charities as follows:-
The decision to close down the charity was voted through by Gordon and Liz Pierson, long term Trustees of Boots Across Scotland, at the offices of their lawyer and fellow Trustee, Raymond Morton. Under the terms of the Boots Across Scotland Trust Deed, revised in 2002, no prior consultation with its supporters was needed and authority for closure lay with a majority of Trustees. A plea from some supporters and former committee members of "Boots" to continue with the charity as a going concern was rejected. In 2009 this group of former committee members went on to found Mountain Aid as a separate Charity, with similar aims to Boots Across Scotland but constitutionally a more open and democratic organisation. It should be noted that Mountain Aid has neither been offered, nor received, any funding from Boots Across Scotland since its inception.
